Wearing a garter concealed beneath your gown on your wedding day is something that brides have been known to do for hundreds of years. Not many know exactly why they do it, but they do it because traditions are traditions. Choosing to wear a garter is totally up to you, but I’m going to give you some background on why you would wear one in the first place!
Many years ago, there was a superstition that if a guest could somehow receive a piece of the bride’s gown, they would be brought luck. Meaning that many years ago a bride would basically be tackled so that the guests could try their hand at grabbing a piece of the bride’s dress…can you imagine?! And then along came the Garter to save the day!
Just like a bouquet toss, the garter toss is done by the groom to all of the eligible bachelors in the crowd. For most, this is a fun part of your big day that gives everyone a good laugh. But, at the end of the day whether or not you choose to wear a garter is completely your choice. Your day will be a reflection of you and if the garter tradition is calling you, then go for it!
